Transition Advising
Planning to continue your education at another UC college on the Uptown or Blue Ash campus? Students who start with an academic program at UC Clermont and change to another UC college to complete another program are “TRANSITION STUDENTS.”
If you are a transition student, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to develop a transition plan specific for you. Also, watch for emails and programs for “transition students” and “transition advising” to make sure you have all the information you need for a successful academic journey.
- Identify the preferred academic pathways that will help you reach your academic goals.
- Create an individual academic and/or transition plan that includes current academic program and time to transition to next college.
- Review transition student admission requirements, including required courses, process, and deadlines for your next desired major.
- Review GPA calculations as needed.
- Consider parallel academic plan if admission to next planned major is selective or competitive.
- Review opportunities to connect with next college of choice through transition programs and transition advising opportunities prior to application for college change.
Transition Process
Step 1: Explore your major
Check out your desired major and transition application criteria. Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to review criteria and required coursework. Watch for announcements to attend transition programs and connect with a transition advisor from your next college of interest.
Step 2: Complete Required Coursework
If your desired major requires specific pre-requisite or first year courses, it is important that you complete those courses to meet expectation. Meet with your assigned academic advisor as needed to confirm you are on track to progress through your next major requirements or to the application process for your major.
Step 3: Apply by posted deadlines
Apply! Access the online Change of College/Major form below. Follow the instructions and submit the form for your chosen college. Deadlines vary by College.
Review Next Steps: Each college will have slightly different next steps. Immediately after completing your application, you will be presented with a “Next Steps” screen containing information from the college and the Registrar about the timeline and next steps.
Some colleges require only the submission of the online Change of College/Major form. The standard deadlines are:
Fall Semester: July 1
Spring Semester: November 1
Summer Semester: March 1
Selective programs may require submission of an application in addition to the online Change of College/Major form AND deadlines for submission vary from the standard. Students should review transition information specific to their college of interest. Links to College information is available under the “Transition Info by College” in the Transition Advising menu.
Some colleges with varying dates include:
- Blue Ash (Selective Programs)
- College Conservatory of Music (CCM)
- College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP)
- College of Nursing
Step 4: Apply for scholarships and awards available to transition students
Review info and Apply! Some colleges offer transition students the opportunity to apply for specific scholarships. Check to see what is available to you.
Some colleges offer specific transition student scholarships. Check with your college of interest to see what opportunities are available.
If you are graduating with an associate degree and transitioning to an on-campus baccalaureate program in Clifton, you may be eligible to apply for the “Transition Student Scholarship” or the “Transition Access Award.” For more criteria information and application deadlines, visit TAC Transition Scholarship.
All students should complete a scholarship search in Scholarship Universe to seek available funding opportunities. To access Scholarship Universe, login to Catalyst and click on the "scholarship" tile to see all opportunities in Scholarship Universe.
Step 5: Watch for your college change request decision email
Allow time for your college change request to be processed as the review process varies by college. Check your student email account regularly for a communication directly from the college.
Step 6: Confirm your change of college/major that was offered
Once approved for a college/major change to your new college on the Clifton/Uptown or UCBA campus, you must confirm before the college will officially update your academic record to your new college program.
Some selective programs have steps in addition to the online confirmation outlined below. Some programs also have specific deadlines for response.
ONLINE CONFIRMATION: You will receive an email to your UC email if your change in major is approved. Log back into the Change Existing Major to a New Major Application and "Confirm" your request. Your degree plan will be updated only after you select "Confirm."
This is a very important step and must be done for you to be assigned your new advisor and be able to register for major-restricted classes.
Step 7: Meet with your New College Advisor
It is strongly recommended that you meet with an academic advisor for your new major/program at the earliest date possible. Some colleges will allow you to schedule an individual advising appointment, while others will require that you attend an orientation.
Step 8: Attend a "Welcome to Clifton!" session
In preparation for a college change to the Clifton campus, Blue Ash and Clermont students can attend a Welcome to Clifton! session. These sessions are offered each semester in May, August, and January/December. This event includes info about Clifton campus connections, resources and events; an opportunity for students to ask questions; and a tour of campus!
Transition Resources
Throughout the fall and spring semesters, programs are offered to help students prepare for college change and to meet with representatives from their next college.
For more info, visit the Clermont transition events webpage or the Transition Advising Center events webpage.
Current UC Clermont students taking classes on the Clifton/Uptown campus have limited access to free reciprocity parking. Review the guidelines for reciprocity parking privileges at the Clermont parking webpage.
Reciprocity parking is limited to certain locations and certain hours, so students may want to consider purchasing a Clifton parking pass or the cost of guest parking. More information is available on the Clifton/Uptown parking webpage.
