Work-Based Learning
Work-based learning is learning by doing. It gives you the opportunity to apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world situations, build career-ready skills and gain experience in your field of interest.
Work-based learning can include internships, co-ops, clinical experiences, practicums, student teaching, job shadowing, service-learning, research and other hands-on experiences.
These experiences help you:
- Apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting
- Develop skills employers are looking for
- Explore career options and gain industry insight
- Build professional connections and confidence
- Add valuable experience to your resume
Your major may require a work-based learning experience, or you may choose to complete one as an elective or career-building opportunity. Either way, gaining real-world experience before graduation can help you feel more prepared for your next step.
