What is a Job Shadow?
A job shadow is a temporary on-site visit to a workplace that can last for several hours, or up to a week, in order to gain knowledge of the job and company.
What are the benefits of job shadowing?
The biggest benefit to doing a job shadow is that it allows you to learn more about your field of interest by observation. By shadowing a professional, you can learn more about their day-to-day activities while also having the ability to ask them questions about their position and the company.
Where do I find a company or person to job shadow?
Utilize your network. If you know someone (family member, friend, alumni connection, etc.) who works for a company you’re interested in, send them an email or call and see if they know someone you could shadow for a few hours or a day. If you need help with this communication or don’t know anyone in your field, talk to your program coordinator or email Monika Royal-Fischer (firstname.lastname@example.org) from the Career Services office.
