Paramedic Education (EMT-P) is designed to provide emergency medical skills such as adult and pediatric assessments, management of trauma and medical emergencies, cardiac rhythm interpretation and monitoring, emergency pharmacology, and advanced airway control techniques. Recently, there has been an increased demand for paramedic skills in EMS systems, hospital emergency care areas, and private industry. Other emerging roles and responsibilities of the paramedic include education, health promotion, and participation in injury and illness prevention programs. The task of providing quality EMS care requires qualified, competent, and compassionate people who can perform under difficult and stressful conditions.
Successful completion of this program awards the student 45 college credits and allows the graduate to sit for the National Registry Paramedic Examination leading to Ohio licensure. UC first time pass rate has been greater than 90% since the paramedic program began.
As emergency medical services (EMS) continue to evolve and become more sophisticated, the need for high quality education for EMS personnel increases. Paramedic education must meet the needs of new and experienced care providers, and those who need the skills and knowledge to meet advancing technology and understand the scientific basis of their practice. The UC EMS paramedic program has been recognized at the state and national level and is accredited by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP).
Admission to the paramedic education program is selective, with limited enrollment. This three session, flexibly-scheduled program encompasses a 10 to 12 month time period which starts in the fall. Application for admission includes letters of recommendation, a paramedic program admissions exam, and meeting specific health requirements.
Currently UC offers three different classes for the paramedic program: Raymond Walters / Tuesday & Thursday / 0900-0100 Clermont College / Monday & Wednesday / 0630-1000 Northern Kentucky / Monday & Wednesday / 0900-0100
