Library Off Campus Access Header

What is it, and how do I use it?

The electronic resources available through the library such as electronic databases, indexes, reference items, and books are provided for University of Cincinnati faculty, staff, and students. The contracts with the vendors who provide these items to the University of Cincinnati require validation that a user is a member of that community. When using a computer located on one of the University of Cincinnati's campuses, the validation occurs in the background and requires no further action on your part. However, if you are using a computer not on campus there are three different methods you can use to gain access to these resources. (See the University Libraries' Off-Campus Access page, http://www.libraries.uc.edu/information/access.html, for more information.
  1. Use a UC Remote Access Account - If you connect to the Internet through a UC Remote Access account, your computer will behave as if it were located on campus. More information about Remote Access Accounts can be at the UCIT site (http://www.ucit.uc.edu/online).
  2. Use another Internet Provider and login to the Off-Campus Access Link - If you connect to the Internet by a means other than through a UC Remote Access account, you may login to the University Libraries' proxy server to gain access to the resources. The login should occur before you try to access the resources or you may experience problems. To learn more about this process, go to the University Libraries' Off-Campus Access page listed above. To go straight to the login page, go to http://proxy.libraries.uc.edu/login?url=http://www.ucclermont.edu/library/.
  3. Use another Internet Service Provider and use a UC VPN Client - If you are not connecting through the UC Remote Access, and there are reasons why the login process does not work for you, you may have another option. If you always use your own computer, you may be able to download and install the UC VPN Client. More information about the VPN client may be found at the Off-Campus Access page mentioned above, and at the UCIT VPN FAQ page (http://www.ucit.uc.edu/resources/faq_vpn.asp).
