LANIC (Latin American Network Information Center)
http://lanic.utexas.edu/
LANIC is affiliated with the Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. LANIC's mission is to facilitate access to Internet-based information to, from, or on Latin America. While many of the resources are designed to facilitate research and academic endeavors, this site has also become an important gateway to Latin America for teachers, students, private and public sector professionals, and anyone looking for information on Latin American.
The following encyclopedias are available in the Clermont College Library's reference section and are quite useful for beginning research:
| Latino America: A State-by-State Encyclopedia | REF E184 .S95 L35555 2008 |
| Latino History and Culture | REF E184 .S75 L3622 2010 |
| Encyclopedia of Latin American History and Culture | REF F1406 .E53 1996 |
| Encyclopedia of World Geography | REF G63 .E556 2005 |
| Encyclopedia of the World's Nations and Cultures | REF G63 .K874 2007 |
| Countries and their Cultures | REF GN307 .C68 2001 |
The Clermont College Library has a variety of sources available that may be checked out of the Library. You may browse the F section which houses the Latin American material, specifically F1201-F3799.
The Geography and Anthropology related items can be found in the G section. This section includes books on specific countries of Latin America, i.e., Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico.
A more effective way to find books and other media on your topic is to use KEYWORD or SUBJECT search in the libraries' online catalog (http://uclid.uc.edu/search/X) using the name of the country and browsing the sub-topics:
| Art, Latin America | Peru -- Civilization |
| Women -- Puerto Rico | Mexico--Social Life and Customs |
If you find no materials on your topic through a subject search, you can do a KEYWORD search by combining key concepts.
From these results, identify an item or two that is most relevant to your topicYour results will include resources located at all of the UC Libraries. Select options listed at the top of the screen:
1.You may order an item from any of the UC Libraries by choosing request button when you click on an item.
2. You may use the modify search button and limit your location to Clermont to look at the resources in the Clermont College Library. However, be aware that this limit would eliminate electronic books and resources from the results.
3. If you don’t find what you are looking for, you may choose the search OhioLINK button, where you will be able to search the catalogs of other Ohio college and university libraries in the OhioLINK network, and request them to be sent to Clermont College Library for you.
If you need assistance, please contact the library.
