The following definition might help to better explain the scope and significance of diversity:
Diversity is "otherness," or those human qualities that are different from our own and outside the groups to which we belong, yet are present in other individuals and groups.
It is important to distinguish between the primary and secondary dimensions of diversity.
Primary dimensions are the following: age, ethnicity, gender, physical abilities/qualities, race and sexual orientation.
Secondary dimensions of diversity are those that can be changed, and include, but are not limited to: educational background, geographic location, income, marital status, military experience, parental status, religious beliefs, and work experiences.

Diversity is a broad topic and covers many disciplines. Find resources by performing a search in the online catalog (http://uclid.uc.edu/search/X) using key concepts, for example:
From the search results, identify an item that is relevant to your topic and choose the SUBJECT heading for more focused results. In this case, one of the SUBJECT headings is “Multiculturalism.” You may limit the location to Clermont, but that may eliminate important resources that can easily be borrowed from another UC Library or from other academic libraries across the state.
Suggested SUBJECT Headings:
| Cross-cultural studies | Cross-cultural orientation | Diversity in the workplace |
| Multiculturalism | Gender identity | Employees -- Training of |
| Discrimination -- Prevention | Ethnopsychology -- Study and teaching of | Education, Preschool |
