What is Pre-Engineering?

Engineering is the design, construction and operation of structures, machines and systems using established scientific principles. Engineering finds ways to put scientific knowledge to practical use. It has many specialties.
This program provides the appropriately prepared student with the first year toward completion of a bachelor’s degree in engineering*. You will need three to four more years of study to earn your bachelor’s degree, depending on the engineering discipline you select. Most engineering degrees require five years of study.
*The student would need to take ENED1020, ENED1090, ENED1091, PD1011, and Intro to Discipline course (major specific) at the College of Engineering.

Success Factors

You should be creative, inquisitive, analytical, and detail oriented with excellent math skills. You should be able to work as part of a team and to communicate well, both orally and in writing. Communication abilities are also important because you will often interact with specialists in a wide range of fields outside engineering.

Career Possibilities

Engineering is a very broad category. Engineers are employed world-wide in virtually every industry. Your career choices depend entirely upon which discipline you pursue to complete your bachelor’s degree.

Plus, our tuition is the lowest of the UC colleges.

Special Programs

The Learning Center at UC Clermont provides free tutoring and online resources to help students get ahead and stay ahead in their classes.

Freshman Admission Requirements

UC Clermont College is an open admissions campus. If you have your high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent, we will admit you. We accept applications all year long and you may start any semester. Financial aid takes 6-8 weeks to process. We recommend that you apply at least 10 weeks prior to your desired attendance.
However, you should plan to start pre-engineering in the fall because the required courses start in the fall and continue sequentially through the spring.
As a first year student, you will need to take the placement test. This test does not affect your admission; however, the results are essential for your proper placement in classes. You must complete the placement test before you may register for English or mathematics courses. All placement tests are given free of charge. Appropriately prepared students will need the following college entrance or Math Placement Test scores (ACT MATH: equal or greater than 29; SAT MATH:  equal or greater than 710; UC MPT:  equal or greater than 750).

Transferring to UC Requirements

You must be in good academic standing at the college or university you last attended. We accept transfer applications all year long and you may start any semester, provided your transcripts arrive in time to be evaluated before the start of the semester you wish to attend.

If you have not taken college-level mathematics or English, you will need to take the placement test.

Changing Majors within UC Requirements

Other UC students may transfer into UC Clermont College by completing the application for change in college and program form available from most UC admissions offices (including ours, 513-732-5319). You are urged to see your advisor before transferring into a different major to minimize any impact on your degree progress.

International Student Requirements

You must demonstrate English proficiency. You must also meet admissions deadlines and visa requirements, and provide documentation of sufficient funds before we can complete your admission. Please call the International Admissions Office (513-556-2069) for details, or email with questions.
