College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Testing

What is CLEP?
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of examinations in introductory college subjects that allows individuals to earn college credit for learning that has occurred outside the classroom. CLEP tests are multiple choice, computer based, national exams that are generally intended to test first-year knowledge.

What tests are offered?
We administer all 34 CLEP exams, with the exception of the optional essays. For further information about each exam, visit CLEP's website at www.collegeboard.com/clep.

When can I take a CLEP test?
CLEP tests are administered by appointment only and the dates available change each quarter.  During the Winter quarter, we will offer CLEP testing on the following dates between
9:00am - 5:00pm (last appointment time at 2:00pm).

Thursday, August 26th - morning appointments only
Wednesday, October 13th

To make an appointment, please e-mail Clermont.Assessment@uc.edu or call (513) 732-5219 at least 2 business days prior to your preferred exam date. Please provide your full name, phone number, above listed date you want to take the test, time between 9:00am and 2:00pm to start your test, and the CLEP exam you would like to take. A staff member will contact you to confirm your appointment.

Yes!  We are an open test center which means that we administer CLEP to UC and non-UC students.

On the day of your appointment
Arrive promptly - if you arrive more than 15 minutes past your scheduled time, you will have to reschedule your appointment.  Please bring the following items with you:

    • Two forms of identification.  The primary form must be a government-issued photo ID with a signature. The second form of ID must have a photo or a signature.
    • Your check, money order, credit card or bankcard to pay the $72.00* fee to CLEP.
    • Your receipt form the Business Office for the $20.00 administrative fee to UC Clermont.

If I am a UC student, why would I take a CLEP exam?
It is best to talk with your advisor before taking an exam to make sure that you are eligible to take an exam and that the credit will be applicable to your degree. The University of Cincinnati has identified a list of CLEP exams that will be accepted for credit, along with the minimum score required to receive that credit. Scores falling below the minimum will not be considered. Please visit www.admissions.uc.edu/documents/CLEP-key.pdf for a list of accepted exams and cut-off scores.

*Fee is determined by the College Board and is subject to change.
