The following definition might help to better explain the scope and significance of diversity:

Diversity is "otherness," or those human qualities that are different from our own and outside the groups to which we belong, yet are present in other individuals and groups.

It is important to distinguish between the primary and secondary dimensions of diversity.

Primary dimensions are the following: age, ethnicity, gender, physical abilities/qualities, race and sexual orientation.

Secondary dimensions of diversity are those that can be changed, and include, but are not limited to: educational background, geographic location, income, marital status, military experience, parental status, religious beliefs, and work experiences.

Books, Reference and Media

Electronic reference resources may be found in:

UC’s Online Reference Shelf (http://www.libraries.uc.edu/research/books/e_reference.html)

OhioLINK’s Electronic Reference Books (http://rave.ohiolink.edu/ebooks/reference/home)

Diversity can be a broad topic and cover many areas. A more effective way to find diversity items related to
your area of interest is to perform a SUBJECT search in the online catalog (http://uclid.uc.edu/search/X) for
subjects such as:

Cross-cultural studies
Cross-cultural orientation
Diversity in the workplace
Multiculturalism
Gender identity
Employees – training of
Discrimination – prevention
Ethnopsychology – study and teaching of
Education, preschool
Critical pedagogy

If you find no materials on your topic through a SUBJECT search, you can do KEYWORD using key concepts, for example  “cultural diversity” AND "awareness."  From these results, identify an item or two that is most relevant to your topic, look at the item record and identify the subject heading that best represents your selected concept. Click on the subject heading to see additional items and/or note it for later searching.

You may limit your location to “Clermont”. However, be aware that this limit would eliminate electronic books and resources from the results.
