Electronic books are books that have either been reproduced into an electronic format or have been created and published in an electronic format. Many electronic books (e-books) are available free of charge, many are purchased. The University of Cincinnati and OhioLINK have purchased many e-books and these can be found in the University of Cincinnati catalog, along with the print books.
Availability of e-books is increasing faster than they can be added to the Libraries' online catalogue. At last count, well over 350,000 e-books were available to University of Cincinnati students, staff, and faculty.
While e-books come from many different sources, you can browse items from some of the larger sources by searching for the source name. For example, netLibrary provides items from university presses, as well as reference and professional books. Some of the large sources of e-books in the University of Cincinnati’s catalog are:
netLibrary (almost 12,000 items, plus 3,400 publicly accessible items)
Safari Tech Books (over 2,000 items)
Knovel (Science and Technology Collection, almost 750 items)
Once you click on an item from one of these vendors, you may also select to browse or search the vendor’s available collection.
For further information on finding electronic books, please see the How-to guide "Find Electonic Books".
NOTE: If you are off campus, remember to validate yourself as a UC student, faculty, or staff before beginning your search. Also, some vendors may require some additional steps to “check-out” the book.
